Eiderdown
Maine, USA
Eiderdown was the name given to the little existing house in cottage/camp community in the town of Saco. Of note was an angled view to the nearby beach and ocean beyond. With the existing house deemed unfeasible to save the design for a new house started with organizing the living spaces in alignment with the angled “coffee view”.

With a small lot size and moderate slope away from the view, the new house design took shape as a two-story design over a walkout/garage level. Primarily living spaces were gathered on the view side and bedrooms to the inland side, with the exception of the primary bedroom suite on the second floor. Additionally, an office loft occupies a small third level, the top point of a custom, steel tube and bracket stair. Double stud walls and triple glazed European windows help contribute to an amazingly efficient building envelope.
